The Undisputed: Dangerous Drug Goes Undefeated Against Prisoners in Powledge Unit’s Symbolic PCP Challenge

The Undisputed: Dangerous Drug Goes Undefeated Against Prisoners in Powledge Unit’s Symbolic PCP Challenge

 By Jason Renard Walker

On October 9 2025, a Hispanic prisoner in restricted housing’s A6 cell, is just the latest victim to take Powledge unit’s PCP challenge and fail. Unlike most people who smoke PCP and strip naked or destroy everything in their path, this victim set everything in his cell on fire, nearly suffocated to death and is now on suicide prevention watch.

As they opened his cell to give him medical assistance, a huge cloud of smoke billowed out and completely covered the entire cellblock, choking those closest to the scene. He briefly lost consciousness, but is presumably OK, as he’s still alive.

There is no entry fee to play, and participation requires no witnesses. The challenge is in knowingly smoking PCP and attempting to keep your composure until you sober up, which can take hours to achieve. This does not include those unaware of what they’re smoking.

Those in general population that fail and are sent to restricted housing, or written up for causing a disturbance, are kicked off the unit. This further shows the ordeal as more of a challenge with rules, than open air drug dealing.

N.O. in B5 cell, turtle in B13 cell and several others all lost the challenge. According to one of the losers, certain inmates told warden Light and officer Link that if he was put back in general population, they would beat him. This is not an unusual consequence, as I explained in a widely circulated article I wrote on societal control in Texas prisons. (1)

Since PCP has been circulating in the prison, the number of prisoners placed on suicide prevention watch has risen significantly, with four being taken off on October 7 and two being added right after.
